YHC loves to bring his particular brand of pain to new AOs. Ever since the launch I have been eager to get back to HoJu, but other Monday activities kept getting in the way. I signed up for a Q last month, but had to cancel last minute due to my father's illness and passing. As it so happened, the date I chose for the makeup was 2 days after what would have been his 71st birthday. So today was about 5/2/1950 and 71 years.
Forecast looked bad yesterday and a backup plan had been put in place, but I woke up to a peaceful Blind Melon morning. Rolled in to the AO at about 5:05 to scope it out on a pre-run. Came back to find 4 PAX waiting and a train passing by. Most of the PAX knocked out the required 10 burpees. If only they knew what was about to come. 2 more joined to give us 7 total. At 0529, started the disclaimer and at 0530 we were off.
Mosey across the AO to the corner of BuHi and 317. Circle up for:
19 Imperial Walkers
Mini Chesto: 10 each regular mercan, wide mercan, stagger right, stagger left, and diamond. 50 total
19-50 for 1950. Why couldn't we just do one set with 19 count? I don't know
Mosey down 317 to the next corner for a circle burp. Two rounds.
Mosey toward the Hall of Justice itself. Run around it with a stop at the crosswalk for 5 squats, 2 BBSUs
We will complete an exercise sequence followed by a lap around the Hall as just demonstrated, with the same stop for 5/2 at the back crosswalk. Increment the squats/BBSUs each time- 10/4, 15/6, etc.
First sequence was burpees, squats, T-bombs, American Hammers- 18, 18, 18, and 17. 71 total for 71 years. Two rounds- a real crowd pleaser
Second sequence was mercans, Bonnie Blairs (Alpha count), dips, flutter kicks (Alpha). Same rep counts. Two rounds again.
With about 10 minutes left on the clock, begin to head to the stage with a modified Lt. Dan. 5:2 ratio of lunges to squats. We were somewhere on the 25 lunge round when, would you believe it, another train comes through. Break for 10 burpees. Skip the Lt. Dan and run to the stage. We had time for everyone to get a round of Mary in. T-Bombs, LBCs, Michael Phelps, Buzzsaw, American Hammer, Freddy Mercury and…something else. Sorry, I forgot.
Praise/prayers for Birdie's daughter and her new job
Prayers for Smoked's sister and her pregnancy
Prayers for YouTube's coworker with ALS
Prayers to finish the school year strong
YHC spoke about my father's passing and choosing joy. Yes, it is a choice. As awful as losing my father is, I'm reminded constantly of what St. Paul wrote to the Romans: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
That is a powerful reminder that even in the midst of this loss and sadness, we have an eternal inheritance- and that is the source of our joy.
Grateful for the chance to lead today!
