YHC often sets a playlist before designing a workout, and this BD was no different. Funk was the flavor of the week on YHC's Spotify playlist, so a BD soundtrack filled with Parliament, Rose Royce, Sly and the Family Stone and more would greet the mighty PAX in the early morning hours at the Meathouse.
Drop the rucks for a warm-up mosey lap around the cordoned-off green with high knees, butt-kickers, and side-to-side x2.
Return to the bricks for the typical Popper warmup: SSH, Weed Picker, Windmill and arm circles.
With the funk-blasting speaker latched to Ghost Popper's ruck, all PAX loaded up rucks and coupons, and headed to the path of pain.
Once arrived, YHC explained that this morning the the Burpee Mile would be re-envisioned as the Meathouse Mile. In short, the PAX w/rucks would coupon-carry in alternating styles for a full mile, stopping every 1/10th of a mile to do something awful. YHC offered his hope that the PAX would still be his friends by the end of the morning.
Waypoint Carry Style Something Awful
Start (Path of Pain) n/a 10 pull-ups with ruck
1/10th (Traffic circle) Zamperini 20 blockees
2/10th (Town Center Dr) Walking curls 20 kettle-bell swings
3/10th (Bush Rd) Zamperini 20 squat thrusters
4/10th (141) Walking lunges 20 cross-over merkins alpha-count
5/10th (Piedmont bank) Zamperini 20 squat-curl-press
6/10th (Sprouts) Walking curls 20 jump-over burpees
7/10th (Town Center Blvd) Zamperini 20 dead lift-curl-press
8/10th (Cobblestones) Walking lunges 20 coupon step-ups
9/10th (base of Path of Pain) Zamperini 20 V-ups w/coupon
10/10th (+ 1 loop to PoP) Walking curls 10 pull-ups with ruck
Much mumblechatter throughout this wonderfully awful program threatened to render YHC's friendships asunder, but the PAX hunkered down and put in strong and admirable work. Aye! For time, the V-Ups were jettisoned and the final 2/10ths of rucking w/coupon were transitioned to a ruck-less mosey with a brief stop for 10 ruck-less pull-ups. None complained about the relieving expediency. Only a sliver of Mary would conclude this packed morning of misery.
The PAX gave two (somewhat sore) thumbs up to the Meathouse Mile, so we may see that format again! With some modifications to reduce the insanity, for example reorder the exercises, and reduce the # reps of cross-over merkins. Thanks for the feedback!
Prayers for hard conversations at work, for the Lord to provide the right people for open positions, and unspoken's.
Don't miss Maguire's VQ at the Bridge on Friday 5/14!
The Meathouse Mile was challenging. The following morning brought residual soreness. A good workout administered to a strong group of PAX who thank you for kicking their butts in the gloom. What a fellowship of accelerators we have, and YHC is proud to count himself among your number.
